Retailers are not ready for the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive regulations when they come into force on 1 January, according to a survey by Eversheds.

Under the directive, retailers will have to tell customers they will take back old electrical equipment and will be responsible for sending waste to a WEEE recycling plant.

However, 42% of retailers and manufacturers still do not know what their obligations are and 70% predict the cost of electrical goods will increase as a result of the directive.
