SIR; I write regarding the way in which EU bureaucracy is interfering with even small regional UK companies.
In our experience, each county trading office appears to have a separate way of interpreting EU rules.
For example, we have been categorically told that we cannot use the title Onion Marmalade as a product description in Somerset. At the same time a friendly competitor of ours is able to use this title in Wiltshire. Surely the enforcing and policing of such legislation should be consistent nationwide and not vary from county to county.
As speciality manufacturers, we are working very hard to launch new and innovative products but at the same time have our sales limited by such ridiculous red tape.
Unfortunately our customers, the retailers, are not always aware of the issues we have as a manufacturer.
