This year's vintage from Rioja is set to be higher quality but lower volume, according to the Codorníu company Bodegas Bilbaínas. Technical director José Hidalgo Togores said most wineries had responded to the problem of sales stagnation caused by high prices. This has been aggravated by an abundant vintage last year and has led to high levels of wine stocks at the wineries. This year winemakers throughout the region thinned out immature bunches of grapes in an effort to avoid over production. Togores said this was a key to the improved quality of this year's harvest. {{DRINKS }}
