Water manufacturers have been bombarding supermarket buyers with offers to replace Coca-Cola’s ill-fated Dasani brand.
Supermarket switchboards were said to be “red hot” following Coca-Cola’s decision on Wednesday afternoon to close the tap on its ill-fated filter water newcomer. The announcement to axe Dasani followed last weekend’s disastrous cancer-scare recall.
The company said it had decided not to reintroduce it to Great Britain “at this time” and the timing for imminent launches in France and Germany was “no longer considered optimal”.
Supermarket buyers revealed they had been inundated with calls from rival brands looking to take Dasani’s place on shelf.
Sainsbury soft beverages buyer Spencer Playle said: “Our phones have been busy with brands trying to seize the opportunity left by Dasani.”
