Interbrew UK has promoted Phil Rumbol to marketing director, replacing Richard Evans who has taken the global role of vice-president, commercial strategy.

Rumbol has been acting marketing director since June when Evans was seconded to work on a global project.

Rumbol joined the Whitbread Beer Company in 1996 as marketing manager for Heineken and was involved in the high-profile advertising campaign, How Refreshing… How Heineken. Two years later he became the director of brand communications, during which time he negotiated the £20m sponsorship of rugby’s Heineken Cup.

After Interbrew bought Whitbread Beer Company in 2000, he became brand director, responsible for lager and ale brands such as Boddingtons, Murphy’s and Stella Artois.

Between January and his June appointment, Rumbol was brands and category director.

Evans will work with chief commercial officer Brent Willis on global brand portfolio strategy.
