Wholesalers and independents may be complaining about the stinginess of the banks at the moment, but one retailer has managed to secure a £2m loan to help it to open two stores.

Scottish c-store chain David Sands has been granted the loan by Clydesdale Bank's Fife and West Lothian Financial Solutions Centre (FSC).

The company recently opened its 26th branch in Kirkcaldy and plans to open a further two stores in Markinch and Dunfermline in coming months.

"Over the years David Sands has grown rapidly and with Clydesdale's support we will continue to diversify and expand," said chief executive David Sands. "The fit between David Sands - a traditional, well-placed company - and Clydesdale - a bank with a traditional banking model - was obvious, and I look forward to planning the future of the company with the team in our local FSC."
