The Scottish Retail Consortium has urged executives of the Scottish Parliament to take tougher action on retail crime. The topic was top of the agenda at a parliamentary reception hosted by the BRC in Edinburgh, with Sir David Steel guest of honour. According to the BRC's 1998 UK wide Retail Crime Survey, retailers spent at least £1.94bn on meeting the cost and preventing crime in stores. SRC director Patrick Browne said: "Figures published in the latest Scottish Business Crime Survey suggest crime costs Scottish businesses £700m a year, which illustrates the extent of the problem requiring urgent action." {{NEWS }}
