Food retailers in Scotland had a particularly good August, with total sales 8.7% higher than one year ago and like-for-like sales up 5.7%, according to latest figures from the Scottish Retail Consortium.

Products such as soft drinks, barbeque products and fresh produce sold well but chocolate sales suffered in the hot weather. Alcoholic beverages had a good month overall.

Total Scottish retail sales increased by 7.6% in August while like-for-like sales were 4.2% higher than August last year.
