The Scottish Grocers' Federation (SGF) has thrown its weight behind the Young Scot ID card.

The Scottish Youth Commission on Alcohol has recommended that the card, which is available free of charge, should be promoted to help combat sales of alcohol to under-18s.

"We have called on the Scottish government to support a campaign to promote the proof-of-age element of the card," said SGF CEO John Drummond. "It would stop alcohol getting into the wrong hands and protect sales staff from mistakenly selling alcohol to a person under 18."
