Sir;The latest Eurobarometer survey, which reiterates that more people in the EU are willing to pay for higher welfare food, is encouraging.
It reinforces the recent IGD report, Consumer Attitudes to Animal Welfare, commissioned by the RSPCA's Freedom Food scheme, which revealed that more than 50% of the UK population is buying one or two higher welfare products a week.
This shows that people have the willingness and power to improve the lives of farm animals, but there is still much more work to be done.
We urge the government to take note of these latest findings when setting standards for farm animal welfare and food labelling.
And we ask more producers and retailers to take greater responsibility and recognise there is a clear market for higher welfare food.
