Seven Eleven Japan, the country's largest c-store chain, is to team up with a group of eight companies in an ambitious e-commerce venture. The new site,, will offer goods and services through internet portals in 8,000 Seven Eleven outlets across the country. Seven Eleven, Japan's fourth largest company by market capitalisation, will take a 51% stake in the $47.6m venture. Other partners include hi- tech giant NEC, broker Nomura Research Institute, electronics specialist Sony, and trading company Mitsui. Other partners ­ each with a 2% stake ­ include the Japan Travel Bureau, the country's largest travel agency, and Kinotrope, an internet consultancy. hopes to offer the purchase of a wide range of goods and services as well as multimedia stations allowing customers to download hit songs straight on to mini discs. {{NEWS }}
