Two of the Irish Republic’s leading food companies, Dairygold and Glanbia, have announced major research and development programmes aimed at producing new value-added products with additional health benefits.
Dairygold, the third-largest company in Irish food and agribusiness with a workforce of 1,800, is to establish a E15.6m R&D centre at its HQ in Mitchelstown, County Cork, with a specialised staff of 30, rising to 50 in two years. According to chief executive Jerry Henchy, the company “intends to lead the way in the development of innovative new consumer food products and food ingredients”.
