The number of shoppers fell on Saturday as people stayed away from the shops to watch England's World Cup match.

According to SPSL's Retail Traffic Index, footfall was down 16.7% from the previous Saturday, and down 7.2% for the month compared with the previous June.

Tim Denison from SPSL, said: “While the World Cup has had an impact, there is still a lingering frailty in consumer confidence.”
