Russ Simper of TM Retail has been appointed chairman of the Association of News Retailing, which represents the news interests of the 30,000 members of the Association of Convenience Stores.
Simper has worked for TM Retail for more than 25 years, starting as a 13-year-old news boy. He later joined the head office as news manager, then became newspaper and magazine buyer, and now leads the news department.
He said: “The news supply chain is not retail customer focused. We must remain resolute in our endeavours for change. The costs to retailers warrant it and, ultimately, the benefits to our customers demand it.”
David Walker, news category manager for Spar, has been appointed the deputy chairman of ANR.
