The growers' association Unio-Coag said that up to 20% of the clemenule crop has been affected by heavy rainfall which brought harvesting to a halt several times. Coupled with high humidity, the rainfall has produced some of the worst conditions experienced by growers for many years. Valencia growers have already estimated damage to be worth more than £150m and have asked for the region to be declared a disaster area. Trade sources believe that as a result the season will finish early, benefiting South Africa, due to start soon. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
