Instant household stain removing pads have become an unlikely battleground for new product development after Mapa Spontex became the third new entrant within six weeks.
Spontex’s new product, Rub Out, follows Procter & Gamble’s Flash Mark & Stain and Home Pride’s Erase Away into the market. But crucially, at £1.15 for a pack of two stain blocks, it is 84p cheaper than P&G’s offering and undercuts Home Pride by 34p.
Rub Out, which like its
counterparts can remove dried stains from hard surfaces and wears down through use, was initially trialled in Tesco and Homebase over the summer and is being rolled out nationally and to other multiples now. Senior product manager for Spontex, Nicki Griffiths, said she was confident Rub Out would quickly become a product people felt they had to have. “It’s the most affordable product on shelf and represents real value for money while not compromising on quality.”
She added: “Consumers can rely on the fact we’re experts in the market.”
