Booths Supermarkets in Knutsford has come out cheaper than four of the UK’s leading multiples for The Grocer 33 shop this week and it impressed with its range and quality of products. At £42.26 Booths’ nominal basket price beat Safeway, two Somerfield stores and Waitrose on price.
The family-owned grocer had no out-of-stocks, although it does not sell Goodfella’s frozen pizza, stocks Persil tablets only in boxes of 18 and Budweiser in 6-packs.
Plenty of offers were in evidence including on the G33 apples, down 33p a kilo to £1.19, Tetley teabags with an extra 50% free, Tropicana reduced by 70p, three 2-litre bottles of Diet Coke for £3 and £1 off Jacob’s Creek Chardonnay, down down to £4.04.
Our shopper described the store as clean and tidy and said business was brisk. Every aisle was packed with customers and staff re-stocking the shelves.
In the rush, perhaps, the checkout operator failed to greet our shopper until a prompt from the shopper after a couple of items had been scanned. That brought a swift apology for “bad manners” and the expressed hope that the incident had not spoiled the visit for our shopper.
