This week our shoppers went out in search of a wide range of fresh and chilled goods. Only three shoppers came back with a full basket from this increasingly important sector for the grocery trade.
Asda returned the cheapest full basket at £7.26, beating Tesco by just 4p as a result of a strong promotion reducing garlic bread to 98p from £1.14.
The cost of prepacked salads was fairly constant across the stores. However, there was a significant difference in pack sizes, which ranged from a 140g pack at Waitrose to a 405g pack at Tesco.
Asda also offered a 25% extra free promotion on its own label coleslaw while white grapes were reduced at Sainsbury from £3.99/kg to £1.99/kg.
