Our mystery shoppers dropped into a nearby convenience format for a top-up shop of 10 items on Tuesday.Six of the eight baskets came back full. Kwik Save, in Llandaff, was cheapest at £15.79, thanks to keen pricing on alcohol and own label premium bread. Tesco Express in Hulme charged £16.67 and the checkout operator demonstrated some thoughtfulness by packing the loaf in a separate bag to prevent the rest of the shopping from squashing it. Sainsbury in Edinburgh provided all 10 items for £16.99, Somerfield in Bristol £17.38, the Co-op in Nottingham for £17.47 and Safeway in Newcastle had the most expensive basket at £18.80.
