The Scottish Retail Consortium has called on the Scottish Executive to create a new Office for Trading Standards for Scotland.

The plea followed the publication today of a new report by the Accounts Commission on the performance of Scotland’s 32 trading standards departments.

SRC director Patrick Browne said: In the absence of greater consistency in enforcement activity across Scotland, we would urge the Scottish Executive to consider merging all of the trading standards departments across Scotland into one new Office for Trading Standards.

“We feel that this enforcement activity is too important to be determined by the varying priorities of 32 different councils.”
