Brian Blessed, one of Britain's most distinguished actors, will fly the flag for England when he speaks at a charity St George's Day lunch organised by The Grocer and our sister publication Convenience Store on April 23. Blessed, a distinguished film and stage actor who became a household name when he appeared in the hit TV series Z-Cars, is also a world famous adventurer and mountaineer. He will be the main speaker at the lunch, to be held in Glaziers Hall, overlooking the Thames at London Bridge. Proceeds will go to the Confectioners Benevolent Fund. A drinks reception in the River Room will precede the event, and there will then be a traditional English lunch, served in the main hall while a military band is playing. Following Blessed's speech, the event, which is sponsored by Kraft and Nestlé Rowntree, will end in rousing style with patriotic songs. Tickets are £75 plus VAT or £750 plus VAT for a table for 10.
