A £7m Food Enterprise Centre has opened in Shropshire with a remit to boost local food and drink.

The purpose-built centre in Shrewsbury will offer facilities to up to 12 start-up and growing businesses and help them meet food industry standards. Heart of England Fine Foods, which is running the centre, will also offer supply chain development and marketing advice, which could include helping build contacts in retail, wholesale and foodservice.

As well as conference facilities and meeting rooms, there are plans to build a demonstration kitchen and foyer cafe where businesses can showcase products.

"Our aim is to make this the leading centre of its kind and I would urge producers to get in touch to learn how we can support them in developing their business to compete regionally, nationally and globally," said HEFF chief executive Karen Davies.
