Scottish independent retailer Botterills is to open its 40th store next week at Coaltown of Balgonie in Fife.
The 1,300sq ft site and post office will be renovated and extended this month and next. It will feature a ‘combi’ post office, run from behind the main counter rather than from a separate screened-off area.
Botterills managing director Lizette Craig said: “It was owned by a couple who are retiring. It is very much a village community store - the only one in the village - and we think we can keep it going.”
The company, ranked 21 in The Grocer Top 50 ranking of independent retailers, plans to open a further four stores by the end of the year.
