Mexican grocery retailer Comerci has opened four stores this month in a bid to compete with Walmex, US retailer Wal-Mart’s Mexican arm.

The Mexican retailer has boosted its floor space by 34,000 sq m, by opening two Mega hypermarkets, a Costco warehouse club and a Sumesa supermarket.

Walmex has continued with its Mexico expansion plan however, and has opened 19 outlets since the start of November, including seven restaurants and 12 stores.
