Israel’s strawberry growers will enjoy a “a huge crop” according to Amos Orr, UK general manager of Agrexco, the country’s largest produce and flower marketing group.
As the season begins, and with almost the entire exportable crop bound for the UK until March, Orr said he anticipated a yield of 1,200 tonnes, 50% up on last year.
In addition to strawberries packed under Agrexco’s Carmel brand, the group will also sell 600 tonnes of strawberries grown in Palestine, marketed under the Coral label. Continuity is also set to improve as more growers switch to high tunnel production.
