British supermarket buyers are travelling to Italy to meet UK food and drink producers, according to the Slow Food gastronomic movement.
Slow Food UK representative Wendy Fogarty said retailers often came back from the famous annual fine food show Salone del Gusto with their contacts books filled with the names and telephone numbers of UK producers.
Fogarty explained: “When buyers see UK producers in the context of an international show like Salone del Gusto they realise just what incredibly good quality some of our domestic products are.
“I’ve had buyers say to me after past shows that they didn’t know many of these businesses even existed.”
Fogarty was speaking as Slow Food and Food from Britain announced the names of 120 UK producers that will exhibit at the Salone del Gusto, which runs from October 21 to 25 in Turin.
