While we are all busy at this time of year attending Christmas parties, decorating our homes and Christmas shopping, Christmas should also be a great time to take a step back and reflect on those less fortunate than ourselves, particularly those who have been involved in our industry.

The Grocer remains a proud supporter of Caravan, the industry's welfare charity, which looks after former colleagues who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own.

This week members of The Grocer team will be joining a list of leading industry figures at St. Luke's Church on Sydney Street in London for a concert of Christmas Carols and Readings.

The event will be hosted by Caravan president Tony Smith, sales director of Unilever UK Foods. There will be readings by Martin Beaumont, chief executive, The Co-operative Group, Waitrose MD Steven Esom, Unilever chairman Kevin Havelock, Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive, Tesco, Bart Dalla Mura, commercial director, Bernard Matthews Foods and Kevin Warren, vice-president and regional general manager, Coca-Cola Enterprises. It will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday 20 December and will be followed by a drinks reception at the Chelsea Gardener.

Anyone who wishes to attend the event or find out more about supporting the important work Caravan carries out through the year should call the Caravan's Renatha Fourie on 01252 875925.
