Sir; Re: Protest leads to suspension (The Grocer, Jan 24, p5). I agree with Romesh Perera’s decision to surcharge utility customers.

I have refused from day one
to top up gas or electric because I am not prepared to accept a commission rate of 0.5%. I receive 4.5% commission on mobile phone top-ups and I am happy with that.

All retailers should stop offering gas and electricity top-ups, and then we will see where the utility companies go. They say providing these facilities will increase customer flow, but it has not made any difference to my trade.

I believe retailers should refuse to offer these services until the margins have been improved.
