Chief executive Jeremy Symonds said the business already supplies 1,000 stores, including 80 family-owned convenience stores under the Smile and Newshops fascias.
It is planning to add further independents to its books next year, following the family’s purchase of the wholesale business from BWG, said Symonds.
T& A Symonds offers convenience operators excellent terms, as well as
access to a range of comprehensive statistics, he said.
The Symonds family originally sold up to BWG in 1999, and bought the business back after the management bought BWG from Pernod Ricard in 2002. The former Newshops part of the business, which is currently ranked number 22 in The Grocer Top 50 independent retailers’ list, is continuing with conversion to the Smile fascia, with 26 stores refitted so far, and plans to take the total to 34 stores by Christmas.
