Originally published in 1985, the leaflet was requested by over 100,000 organisations in response to the Intoxicating Substances (Supply) Act which came into effect in 1985. Deaths from solvent abuse recorded in 1989 totalled 101. Between 1971 and 1989, adhesives accounted for 21% of deaths, lighter fuel gas 33%, other solvents for 25%, aerosols for 21% and 1% of the deaths are unattributed. {{COUNTERPOINT }}
