June 15, 1991. Food purchases will not increase if Sunday trading is liberalised and multiples are allowed to open. They will only be spread over seven days instead of six, according to leaders of the independent sector. Home Office minister Angela Rumbold has stressed her determination to find a workable solution to the dispute surrounding trading laws, but symbol group executives say her formula must not include a free for all. Rumbold told MPs that the new measures must be "agreed, workable and enforceable and carry general support".
