The method adopted was to make a purchase and induce the tradesman to write out a small cheque. In a Tottenham case it was altered and cashed for 175l. A Wood Green publican parted with a cheque for a small amount, and it was altered and cashed for 75l. A pawnbroker's manager at Wood Green parted with a cheque for 1l.1s.
