Sir; Your Opinion last week about the formation of the Agricultural Biotechnology Council hit the nail on the head. It is important that the whole issue of GM should be understood, as you say, by the man on the Clapham omnibus. The trouble is that many people do not trust politicians and farmers, scientists rarely talk the same language as the rest of us, and many media people are arts, not science graduates. As you rightly say, there needs to be a scientific debate without emotive rhetoric. It is not a question of being pro or anti at this stage. The GM issue needs to be communicated in a language which allows us to understand the issues. Robert Smith UK managing director Dutch Meat Board {{LETTERS }}
