From its herd of Jersey cows, one of the largest in the UK, Mackie's of Scotland makes the country's leading luxury brand of ice cream.Marketing director Karin Hayhow says sales have doubled in the last five years to over four million litres per annum. "More than half our sales are now outside of Scotland, reflecting increased distribution and awareness of our brand south of the border," says Hayhow. Mackie's strength lies in its one litre tubs for the take home market. Its natural, creamy Traditional recipe is its bestseller and is now stocked nationally in Asda, Tesco, Safeway, the Co-operative Group and leading independents. Hayhow says the organic version of Traditional at rsp £2.99 for 1 litre is now firmly established nationally, with sales growing in the last year to account for almost 10% of Mackie's business. This summer it is launching a mini-multipack of four 100ml tubs in Traditional and Honeycomb Harvest flavours.Further organic flavours are planned and a new range is to be unveiled later this year, plus an on-pack promotion offer. A new shopping area on its web site has recently been opened selling fun Mackified merchandise' and portable freezers. Says Hayhow: "The website is central to our consumer communications strategy. A new feature is competitions based on email postcards. We'll also be using it to support on pack promotions." {{Z SUPPLEMENTS }}
