Adam Leyland, editor of The Grocer, has been named editor of the year at the British Society of Magazine Editors awards in the business and professional weekly category.

The Grocer was a "force to be reckoned with in the industry, with an editor who isn't afraid to take on the big guns", judges said.

Said Leyland: "It is thanks to the passion, hard work and considerable skill of the staff here at The Grocer that we have won this award. It is, above all, a tribute to them. But it also reflects the astonishing dynamism and sheer newsworthiness of the industry itself. The issues, stories and people we write about are all endlessly fascinating and massively important, be it the health and wealth of the consumer, the survival of the planet or the sum of human happiness."

In the past 18 months, The Grocer has relaunched with a new design, extra pricing and promotions analysis, and more columnists. Traffic to the new and improved website has also increased tenfold.
