Lottery tickets will become high street money-off vouchers as part of a new promotion by the Health Lottery.

Under its Magic Monday scheme, different retailers will take it in turns to offer money off every Monday.

CEO Martin Hall said the deals moved the lottery category from "most people lose" to "everybody should win" and were a "great return" for £1.

The rotating offers will be advertised on TV from next week. The first offer will be £5 off any mobile phone case worth more than £14.99 at the Carphone Warehouse on 7 November.

The Health Lottery has also pledged to award at least one top prize of £100,000 each Saturday. If no player matches all five balls in the Saturday draw, the first of which took place on 8 October, one ticket will be picked at random to scoop the top prize. This would keep the new lottery exciting, said Hall.

Sales director Tony Holmes added that the new initiatives would also benefit the 40,000 retailers selling Health Lottery tickets. "This will breathe life into our high streets and shops as consumers realise not just the opportunity to win and help health-related good causes, but also to save money on retail purchases."
