The chain, originally a business collaboration between Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone, has teamed up with Sainsbury to launch a range of packaged frozen meals straight from its menu.
It will be the first time the chain, which owns 23 restaurants globally including one in London’s Leicester Square, has tested its muscle in food retail anywhere in the world.
World Famous Chicken
Crunch and Hot’n’Spicy Chicken Wings will be the first to hit Sainsbury’s cabinets this month. Three more products - Premium Hamburgers, BBQ Ribs Bucket and BBQ Half Rack of Ribs - are scheduled to roll out next spring, while details of any marketing backing will be revealed in the new year. The products are the result of a licensing tie-up with the Dutch arm of Perkins Foods and Hartleys International.
Planet Hollywood founder and owner Robert Earl said: “The Planet Hollywood restaurant has been such a phenomenal success in the UK that we decided to make our products more accessible so that people can enjoy them in the comfort of their own home.”
Sainsbury’s frozen food buyer Vicky Lawless said the chain was confident that shoppers would buy into the premium offering. Chicken Crunch will be priced at £3.75 for a 400g portion. She said: “This is a great chance to get more premium consumers into the frozen aisle.”
