With soft drinks, the big issue is refrigeration. We don't keep single cans on the shelves any more because people just don't buy them.
Multipacks still sell well from the ambient shelves because customers are buying them to drink later. But for immediate impulse drinking, customers expect to have cold options readily available - particularly with sudden hot spells such as we're seeing at the moment - and you need to have the fixture there to cater for sudden demand.
Energy and sports drinks and smoothies have obviously become hugely popular, given the current trend towards healthier diets, so we ensure we maximise on our refrigeration space in stores to include relevant brands such as Lucozade and Red Bull.
We also dedicate a good amount of space to the bottled water category. Bottled water, along with the energy drinks sector, is massively popular nowadays compared with just a few years ago.
