A temporary control zone has been set up around a farm near Dorking, Surrey, as a third possible case of foot and mouth disease continues to be investigated.

Defra said the 3km zone had been set up last night. A confirmed outbreak at the site would be the first case outside the existing 10km surveillance zone that was enforced around the first outbreak in Pirbright, near Guildford.

A total of 576 animals have been slaughtered since the virus was first discovered a week ago.
