Three people had to be treated in hospital for the rare strain of salmonella at the centre of the Cadbury chocolate bar recall.

A Health Protection Agency report said that a baby, child and adult were all treated in hospital with food poisoning from the Montevideo strain of salmonella, and 31 people have had food poisoning from the strain since 1 March this year.

However, the HPA also said that no direct link had been established between their cases and last week's recall by Cadbury Schweppes of seven of its chocolate products due to possible salmonella contamination.
