A new farming pressure group to tackle the power of the supermarkets and rival the National Farmers Union is to launch next week as three of the industry’s most controversial characters join forces.
Farmers For Action boss David Handley, stern NFU critic and former council member Derek Mead and Zac Goldsmith, editor of The Ecologist magazine and founder of the pressure group Farm, are teaming up to form Better NFU, a new organisation to “do better” for farmers’ than their current representatives.
The group aims to change the direction and leadership of the NFU, although details of the plans are still under wraps.
