Competition regulators have given Interbrew the green light to outsource its secondary distribution operations to Tradeteam, Exel's drinks arm.
The deal will increase the brewer's capabilities across all trade sectors and enable it to focus on its core sales, marketing and production activities. The decision not to refer the agreement to the Competition Commission means Interbrew will transfer all secondary distribution operations and 1,500 staff to Tradeteam next month.
Stewart Gilliland, chief executive, Interbrew UK and Ireland, said: "In Exel's Tradeteam I believe we have a specialist distribution partner best placed to meet the needs of our customers. The deal with Tradeteam will deliver optimum focus, service and efficiencies for all parties."
