Harry Tuffins Supermarkets has achieved nearly double-digit like-for-like sales growth

The Grocer Top 50 independent retailer said for the first six months of its financial year, non-food sales rose 20% and licensed sales 11% to contribute to a total like-for-like sales growth of 9.3%.

MD Paul Delves said the results were due to better merchandising and an investment in new shelving and planograms, which were enabling the space to sweat in Harry Tuffins three supermarkets and one c-store.

The better usage of space had enabled Delves to expand the non-food offering with particular success on gardening products.

Delves said he still wanted to add new stores to the portfolio, however new outlets were difficult to find.
