The Turkish hazelnut intervention agency Fiskobirlik is still holding large buffer stocks, despite agreeing last year to sell off its surpluses. With an estimated holding of about a quarter of a million tonnes to dispose of, there is little chance of the hazelnut market absorbing so much product in its current state. Price over Christmas were flat at about US$340 for 100kg, but are unlikely to stay at that level for long.
