Gordon Ramsay, media-styled bad boy of the celebrity chef circuit, has attacked genetically modified food and slammed the “pretentiousness” of organics.

In an exclusive interview with The Grocer, Ramsay, the former Glasgow Rangers footballer who has built a multi-million pound empire of upmarket restaurants, said: “I am totally against GM food and I would never eat it.”

“I don’t want to hear that the essence and flavour of tomatoes is being genetically modified by scientists.”

And admitting that he had “never got carried away” with the organics trend, he added: “Organics, rather like nouvelle cuisine, have lost their way. I am still using the same fresh produce suppliers that I had 10 years ago, and they are not organic.”
