The trade imbalance between the UK and continental Europe means UK manufacturers now benefit from some of the most competitive freight rates in Europe. Research from online freight marketplace Freight Traders reveals the average cost of moving a full load from Birmingham to Rotterdam is E608 as opposed to E1,275 to move it in the opposite direction. MD Garry Mansell said: "There is a huge amount of trade coming in on refrigerated trucks from Holland and Belgium, and a lot of empty lorries going back looking for loads." Freight Traders has already doubled the amount of freight it handled last year (E140m) as it approaches the end of its second year in business. The Mars subsidiary enables shippers to allocate freight through auctions and long term tenders on the internet, slashing the time taken to create and award tenders from several months to less than five weeks. While other marketplaces have gone to the wall, Freight Traders has cut deals with Kellogg, Lever Faberge, Mars and several major grocery retailers, including Sainsbury. The company has recently launched an ocean freight service enabling shippers to tender for contracts to transport goods on a global basis. {{NEWS }}
