Retailers cited the end of Euro 2004 promotions and the impact of interest rate rises for a slowdown in sales during July, according to the CBI’s latest monthly Distributive Trades Survey.
It said sales were expected to continue to slow down during August.
However the CBI emphasised that it was too early to know whether the downturn would be sustained.
