European food retailers should look to their UK counterparts when it comes to promoting healthy eating, the BRC will tell a Brussels audience next week.

The example being set by UK supermarkets shows that the market is helping to achieve government targets on healthy eating without the need for regulation.

The comments will be delivered by BRC director of food policy Andrew Opie to MEPs and leading food industry leaders, including those from Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and PepsiCo.

Opie will outline where retailers have made differences, through product development, labelling, and communication.
