Convenience food specialist Uniq has reassured the City with an upbeat trading statement indicating sales have improved in the last quarter.
"We've just had the very successful launch of two functional spreads in France and the new management team there is driving recovery," said a spokesman.
Efficiency savings through centralised purchasing and manufacturing had offset trade pressure and a higher marketing spend, said the company.
"The improving trend in operating profit that started with an 8% improvement in quarter four 2001/2 will be maintained for the third consecutive quarter."
As The Grocer went to press, Uniq was rumoured to be days away from closing the deal to sell its branded spreads.
