US supermarket chain, Dick’s, has named Richard Taggart as its new chief executive, to succeed Robert Brodbeck who has resigned for personal reasons.

Taggart has 29 years of supermarket industry experience, serving Dick’s Supermarkets as controller since joining the company in 1985. He has also held positions with Kroger and Allied Supermarkets.

Brodbeck has stepped down after 17 years in the position, having first joined the company in 1950 at the age of 14.

The group has supermarkets in Platteville, Darlington, Dodgeville, Boscobel, Lancaster, Prairie du Chien and Monroe, Wisconsin and Galena, Illinois. A ninth supermarket will open towards the end of the year in Maquoketa, Iowa.
